Law of Demand

Statement

The law of demand states that an inverse relationship exists between the price and the quantity demanded of a good, ceteris paribus.

Notes

The inverse relationship is what gives the demand curve its downward slope. It is underpinned by the law of diminishing marginal utility: because each additional unit yields less satisfaction, a consumer will buy more only at a lower price.
